ScotJam: Explorers - Walking Expedition

ScotJam: Explorers - Walking Expedition

Route planning, navigation, and a multi-day expedition in the Arrochar Alps.

The Walking Expedition is ideal for Explorers who love being in the hills or want to develop their confidence for future adventures. This programme will cover all the requirements for the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition and the expedition element of the Chief Scout’s Diamond Award.

Throughout the week, you’ll build your navigation, route-planning and hill skills before taking part in both a short training expedition and your actual qualifying expedition in the stunning Arrochar Alps. You’ll work as a team to plan your journey, carry your kit, and navigate safely with support from experienced instructors.

Training will cover map and compass work, weather awareness, personal kit, group equipment, campcraft, and staying safe in the hills. You'll put these skills into practice on your expeditions, with wild camping or remote campsite options depending on weather and group ability.

By the end of the week, you’ll feel confident operating in upland environments and will have completed the expedition requirements for your Silver DofE or Diamond Award.
