Deer and Woodland Management

A hands-on day designed to help you see your woodland with new eyes. Learn how to assess woodland health, spot signs of deer and squirrel damage, and explore management options before heading out on a practical woodland walk to apply your new skills in the field.

Step into the woods at Broadstone Warren and build your confidence in understanding and managing woodland environments with this practical one-day course delivered in partnership with the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and the High Weald National Landscape Partnership (HWNL).

Throughout the day, you’ll explore the key features of healthy woodlands, learn how to recognise early signs of pest pressure from deer and squirrels, and gain insight into best practice in deer management. After some short indoor sessions, you’ll head outdoors for a guided woodland walk where you’ll put your new knowledge into practice, identify species, assess damage, and discover ways to support more resilient woodlands.

Along the way, you’ll be supported by experienced trainers who’ll share practical tips, real-world examples, and field-tested techniques you can take back to your own sites or projects. A locally sourced venison lunch is included, giving you a taste of sustainable woodland management in action.
