ERCA Traditional Ropes Course Instructor (Conversion)

ERCA Traditional Ropes Course Instructor (Conversion)

The Traditional Ropes Course Instructor conversion course is a qualification for instructors who principally deliver developmental sessions using traditional ropes course elements – such as Crate Stack, Leap of Faith, or Jacobs Ladder.  These elements typically use an assisted belay (top rope) system, and focus on session outcomes such as team work, communication or leadership.  In addition candidates on this course learn simple access techniques to move around the course efficiently, and complete simple tasks like routine checks.

The ERCA Conversion course qualifies people with transferable skills, knowledge and experience from other disciplines to fulfil the roles of an ERCA instructor.  Typically people attending this course have previously been formally assessed in a similar ropes based competency (e.g. RCI, IRATA, Scout Climbing Permit, Company specific assessment), and have a solid foundation in instructional skills (at least 30 hours of experience). The course is structured to “top up” instructional skills and techniques, before focusing on accessing methods for moving around the ropes course and working at height.
